Tribute to Arab immigration artwork finished in São Paulo
This Thursday (2) ANBA Bulletin: The artwork that celebrates Arab immigration to Brazil was completed by artist Kleber Pagú in late January. It is installed on the facade of the Edifício Garagem Automática Senador in downtown São Paulo, and is running for the Guinness World Records of the world’s largest arabesque in sculpture format.
The Arab Food Hub was established between government agencies and the private sector of different Arab countries. The initiative will have a digital platform for trade in the sector and bring together service providers, such as logistics carriers.
Professor Alejandro Frank gave an interview about the digital transformation in foreign trade. According to him, companies that have a well-established digital strategy and master digital technologies have better international performance.

Mubadala Capital, an asset management subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund, Mubadala Investment Company, will invest BRL 500 million (about USD 97.82 million at the current rate) in Atvos, one of the leading ethanol companies in Brazil, in exchange for a 31.5% stake in the company. For that to happen, the FIP Agroenergia holding fund took control over Atvos and will be responsible for paving the way for Mubadala’s arrival. This Monday (30), Giovanni Forace took over as interim CEO of the ethanol company.

Coffee was among the top 15 Brazilian agribusiness exports to the Arab countries in 2022. Of the list, the commodity was also the one that saw the highest price rise. It was sold in the Arab League for USD 3,962.57 per tonne, up 88.10% from a year earlier, according to data compiled by the Market Intelligence department of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) made public earlier this month.

Companies most advanced in digital transformation are also the ones with the best results in international markets. Production Engineering professor of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Argentine-born engineer Alejandro Germán Frank, said research points to this. “Companies that are digitally transformed, have a well-established digital strategy, and mastered the use of digital technologies perform much better in terms of international markets, be it in exports or operating costs, and all the financial effects this generates,” he said in an interview with ANBA.

As part of its plans to expand the business and ship its dates to new markets, Egypt’s Haggan Group intends to export ten containers this year, with an average of 20 tonnes per container. The destinations could be many, and there is an expectation of selling to Brazil.

The Arab Federation for Digital Economy signed a memorandum of understanding with government and private agencies from different Arab countries to establish an Arab Food Hub. The memorandum of understanding was signed on the sidelines of the meetings of the Higher Coordination Committee for the Joint Arab Action in Abu Dhabi.

A 444-square-meter arabesque sculpture was installed at a height of 70 meters from the floor on the front of Edifício Garagem Automática Senador, which had its 2,000-square-meter surface painted with golden paint, in addition to lights that make the building glow at night to illuminate São Paulo’s Historic Center, just around the corner of Rua 25 de Março and Avenida Senador Queirós.

Saudi Arabia will invest in vertical farms, where crops are grown in a smaller footprint and controlled space, usually indoors. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) signed a joint venture agreement with US-based company AeroFarms to build and operate indoor vertical farms in the Arab country and throughout the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The news was announced on the Saudi Arab News website.

The projection is 0.2 percentage points above the previous October report, while the forecast for 2024 saw a downward revision of 0.4 percentage points. In 2022 Brazil’s economy grew 3.1% in 2022.

Global inflation is expected to fall in 2023 and 2024, amid subpar economic growth. So predicted the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in its World Economic Outlook on Tuesday (31). The Fund projects that global growth will fall from an estimated 3.4% in 2022 to 2.9% in 2023, then rise to 3.1% in 2024.

Dubai-based Emirates airline from the United Arab Emirates flew this Monday (30), fueling one of the engines of a Boeing 777-300ER entirely on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The company announced on its website it was the first demonstration flight in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) using 100% SAF in one of the two engines. SAF is a fuel made from renewable inputs. The flight left Dubai International Airport and flew over the coast of the emirate for over an hour.

Brazilian writer Marcelino Freire delivered a creative writing workshop in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from January 23 to 27, to ten Brazilian female writers living in the Arab country. Born in Sertânia, Pernambuco, the Brazilian author won the Machado de Assis prize in 2014 for his novel Nossos ossos and the Jabuti award in 2006. For his short story compendium Contos negreiros. His books were adapted for the theater and also translated into French, Spanish and Italian.
