This Thursday (13) in your ANBA Bulletin: Foreign Affairs secretary-general Maria Laura da Rocha is the first woman to occupy this position in Brazil. Rocha gave an exclusive interview with ANBA about her career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and her views on the world’s diplomacy. Brazil’s new ambassador to Abu Dhabi, Sidney Romeiro, is settling in. This is his first position as an ambassador after serving as director of the Middle East Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Egypt is a global fertilizer supplier. The country expects to grow in the industry and sees Brazil as a large potential market. Bahrain is expected to post a 2.7% growth rate, driven by the non-oil sector.

Brazil-Saudi Arabia group launched in Brazilian Senate

The Brazil-Saudi Arabia Parliamentary Group was established at the Brazilian Federal Senate last week. According to information released by the house, the initiative aims to bring about legislative exchange, foster mutual understanding and deepen cooperation in fields of common interest.

Bahrain expected to grow 2.7% in 2023

Bahrain reported solid growth last year, at 4.9%, and its economy could continue to expand in 2023. In a report released this Tuesday (11), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicted a 2.7% advancement in the Gulf country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) this year.

Saudi camel festival features prize pool of USD 15 million

Saudi Arabia will host the fifth Crown Prince Camel Festival starting August 1, featuring a prize pool of SAR 56.25 million (USD 14.9 million). The festival is scheduled to be hosted by the Saudi Camel Federation at Taif Camel Square and feature 589 races. It’ll start with an 11-day preliminary stage for all age groups featuring 350 races and will culminate with 239 final races on August 28.

Maria Laura da Rocha was in Moscow during Brazil’s rapprochement with the Soviet Union. She was also in the Fernando Henrique Cardoso administration helping to consolidate the democracy in Brazil. And she accompanied Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his trips as one of the most sought-after leaders across the world.

Sidney Romeiro takes post at Brazilian embassy in Abu Dhabi

Diplomat Sidney Leon Romeiro (pictured above) is the new Brazilian ambassador to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. He will take the post in August. The Senate approved Romeiro’s nomination last week, on July 4. Romeiro was serving as director of the Middle East Department of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2019. This will be the 61-year-old diplomat’s first post as ambassador.

Egypt the world's seventh-largest fertilizer exporter

Egypt’s Chemicals and Fertilizers Export Council (CEC) announced the country now ranks seventh among the world’s leading fertilizer exporters. The ranking is led by Russia, followed by Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, and Nigeria. CEC president Khaled Abu El-Makarem said the target is to expand this year between 25% and 30% in exports.

As global spending recovered after the COVID-19 pandemic, Latin America and the Caribbean attracted record flows of foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2022, the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) reported on Monday (10). The region received USD 224.58 billion.

Brazil implements National Export Culture Policy

After approval by Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva this Tuesday (11), the National Policy for Export Culture was announced in the Official Federal Gazette. One of its goals is to improve public policies aimed at foreign trade.
