The 25th São Paulo International Book Biennial is the main topic of the ANBA Bulletin this Monday (30). The emirate of Sharjah will be the guest of honor of the biennial scheduled for August 3 to 12 that will feature over 40 titles translated from the Arabic into Portuguese. In addition to the translated books, the Sharjah stand will host poetry reading with Arab authors, an overview of the Arab publishing market, Arab music concerts, workshops of decorative masks and traditional UAE basket weaving, and the presentation of a project to encourage people in Sharjah to read.
Also during the Biennial, the Federation of Muslim Associations of Brazil (FAMBRAS) will launch the kids comic book Khalil, which portrays the day-to-day life of a Muslim boy and discusses the issue of Islamophobia. Brazilian Rogério Mascarenhas, known as Romahs, wrote the story, and the illustrations are by Malika Dahil Aguiar, a Moroccan artist that lives in Brazil.
Isaura Daniel writes about the play One Thousand and One Nights, staged in Rio de Janeiro by drama group Teatro Voador Não Identificado (TVNI) - Unidentified Flying Theatre, loosely translated. The play mixes tales of the classic work with testimonies from refugees of Arab descent living in Brazil.
