Kofta and falafel based on Brazilian plants

This Thursday (10) in your ANBA Bulletin: Food tech Amazonika created Brazilian plant-based versions of Arab dishes kofta and falafel with ingredients from the Amazon. Embrapa is a partner in the research with products from cashew fiber.

Latin America-UAE: Investments indicate confidence

Investments and the establishment of companies between countries are signs of a trustful relationship. That is what the former Costa Rican minister of Foreign Affairs, Manuel Gonzalez, said during a virtual roundtable on business between the United Arab Emirates and Latin America this Wednesday (9). “It was not easy to open the doors at first, but I see that the relationship between the UAE and Latin America is improving; the UAE’s minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is doing a great job,” said Gonzalez.

Brand creates Brazilian plant-based kofta, falafel

Falafel was the first product ever developed by Brazil-based food tech Amazonika Mundi. At the time, the company was still called Sottile Alimentos and was searching for some connection with the Amazon. What the founders already knew was that the company was to be plant-based. “We were already fans of the Arab cuisine, and for the falafel we figured out how to maintain its originality but add something of Brazil to it. So, we brought lima beans to the recipe. We used to participate in many food shows back then, and in 2018 we went to Rock in Rio. Our falafel was a major hit,” said Thiago Rosolem, CEO and one of the founders of the company.

Netflix aids Arab film and TV professionals

Netflix, a global video service company for the streaming of series and movies, announced the creation of a USD 500,000 fund to support television and film professionals from Arab countries that are struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a joint initiative with the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC), according to information released on the Saudi news website Arab News.

Brazilian beef exports drop, UAE buy more

Beef exports from Brazil dropped in volume this year, but some countries like China, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates increased imports in the period. According to information made public by the Brazilian Meat Packers (ABRAFRIGO), exports of fresh and processed meat reached 714,300 tonnes year-to-date through May, down 2% from the same period last year. Revenue was up 2% in the same comparison, to USD 3.24 billion.

Al Burda Award for Islamic Arts opens for registration

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Ministry of Culture and Youth of the United Arab Emirates have opened the registration of interest for the 2021 Al Burda Award, a prize committed to supporting, preserving and celebrating the Islamic arts in their various forms and contents. The Al Burda Award includes four main categories: Ornamentation, classical and modern calligraphy, classical Arabic poetry, and Arabic typography.

Book club promotes Arab titles in Brazil

The Center for Arab and Islamic Studies (CEAI) at the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS) in Brazil has launched the Book Club Arab World and Its Diaspora. The meetings will be held on a monthly basis, and according to the organizers, this is the first Brazilian book club ever to focus on the theme. The first meeting will take place on July 15 from 7 to 9 pm (BRT). Registration for participating in the club is free of charge and is open.

Syrian exhibition opens registration for building firms

The 2021 International Trade Exhibition for Rebuilding Syria has opened registration for building companies interested in participating in the event. The trade show will take place from September 29 till October 3 in Damascus, Syria’s capital city. This is the country’s biggest event specialized in building, construction and infrastructure and began in 2015.
