He was welcomed by the Chamber's president Rubens Hannun (on the right), and told him that the state can export beef, coffee, fish and other goods to the region, and that Middle East and North Africa country could supply the state with fertilizers. “If there’s a given product that suits the tastes and consumption habits of Arabs, we can quickly start manufacturing it,” Pereira told ANBA's Isaura Daniel, adding that the state needs investment in fish processing.
Copacol, the agricultural cooperative based in Paraná, Brazil, opened an office this month in Dubai, United Arab Emirates to cater to Arab markets and to boost its business in the region. This is Copacol's first international unit. Seven Arab countries took in a combined 21% of foreign sales by Copacol last year. Poultry made up the bulk of sales, but the cooperative's president Valter Pitol believes sales of other items, like soya oil and bran, could also increase. Read all about it in a story from Joel Santos Guimarães.
And tourism industry show Festival das Cataratas will run from June 20 to 22 in Foz do Iguaçu. The event will feature a dedicated Middle East area run by Brazilian-born, Lebanese-based journalist Lú Braga, who also writes the blog Na Segunda a Lu Começa (Lú Begins on Monday). Arab tourist spots will be advertised to Brazilians, and spots in Brazil will be advertised to Arabs. Foz do Iguaçu sits on the border of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. It's home to a big community of Arab immigrants and descendants.
