This Friday (4) in your ANBA Bulletin: The Beqaa Valley in Lebanon produces and exports wine to Brazil. Lebanon has a thousand-year history in winemaking, but this was hampered by the difficult times the country went through. But the industry has reinvented itself since the 90s and managed to maintain its foothold in the global marketplace. Egypt’s commercial consul in São Paulo, Nashwa Bakr, gave ANBA an interview. With a degree in Administration and Economics, she has worked in commercial diplomacy for 20 years and took up the post in São Paulo last February. A major challenging is making Egyptian products more widely known and sought after in the Brazilian market. And the Brazil Arab News Agency launched an article section. The space was launched with a text by Qais Shqair, head of the mission of the Arab League in Brazil, who wrote about economic diplomacy. A master in intercultural communication, Rodrigo Solano wrote an article on the human aspect of the internationalization of companies.

The history of wine making in Lebanon is ancient. But the hiatuses the country went through made the region lesser known among many wine enthusiasts. The country was marred by a wine production downtime during the Ottoman Empire and the civil war that struck the nation from the 70’s through the 90’s.

Economic diplomacy is a form of diplomacy that uses the full spectrum of economic tools of a state to achieve its national interests. This definition is strictly related to states, but one need only to look at the history of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) to see how close to the economic diplomacy an institution can get as the ABCC has successfully managed to take on an effective role to further develop bilateral and multilateral relations between the Arab countries and Brazil. The excellent economic relations between the two parties are reflected in a trade balance that amounts to almost USD 18 billion a year.

When thinking about international competitiveness, it is not uncommon for aspects of a low product or service price to come to mind, making perfect sense. However, it must not be forgotten that business success involves three other Ps of the so-called Market Mix (Price, Product, Promotion, and Place) and for this set to be put into practice, knowledge is required.
