This Wednesday (12) in your ANBA Bulletin: the Anufood Brazil expo this week in São Paulo featured a number of Arab brands. Egypt's Quality Standard LTD brought in olives, olive oil, pickles and other products in a bid to find buyers in South America.
Dates from Palestine, sardines from Morocco, spices from Egypt, energy drinks from Dubai and other foods and drinks from across the region were also on showcase at the event, which featured an Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce stand. Mohammed Al Hammali flew in from Dubai to purchase meats. You can read all about it in a story from Bruna Garcia. And a report from Thais Sousa draws a parallel between the Cariri backlands in Brazil and the Moroccan desert. Morocco's Nabila Jebbouri, who works in cultural heritage and human development, is doing research on the topic.
Also featured are news on coffee exports from Brazil, including to Arab countries, an Egyptian music concert set to take place in São Paulo, the production ramp-up by Saudi Aramco, and a showing in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro of photographs taken in the UAE by a Brazilian pilot.

Oasis, culture and the residents themselves make the sertão of Cariri a more Moroccan place. It’s the opinion of Nabila Jebbouri, a researcher from Morocco that works in cultural heritage and human development. The 28-years-old currently works between Morocco and the region of Cariri in the state of Ceará, Brazil.

Oil company Saudi Aramco announced on Wednesday (11) that it will increase its output to 13 million barrels per day (bpd) starting April. Arab News reported that the company received a directive from the Ministry of Energy to do so.

Egyptian music will make itself heard in the outdoor area at São Paulo’s Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB) on the 27th this month. Lute player and singer Sami Bordokan (pictured above) will perform an Egypt-centric repertoire tailored over the span of decades. The concert is part of the CCBB’s educational program for São Paulo. It will take place concurrently with the exhibition Ancient Egypt – From Everyday to Eternity, currently on show at the CCBB.

Brazil’s coffee exports down, Arab market share unchanged

Coffee exports from Brazil to the Arab countries in January and February 2020 were down 15.2% from the year-ago period. Shipped volume was 246,932 60-kg bags, with revenue down 20% to USD 27.9 million. Despite the results, the share of exports from Brazil taken in by Arab countries remained flat at 4%. The figures were made public this Tuesday (10) by the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé).

 | A Brazilian who lives in Dubai brought faces from the United Arab Emirates to the photo exhibition “Portraits,” which has opened this Tuesday (10) in the Tarja Preta space in the hall of the ticket office of Reserva Cultural movie theater in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro. Marcel Weichert lives in the Arab country because he’s a pilot at a airline based there, and the show in Rio presents pictures taken in the UAE, Myanmar and United States.

 | A special report to mark International Women’s Day points out that Saudi women constitute 35% of the workers in Saudi Arabia. The document was issued by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT). It reports still that Saudi women over the age of 15 account for 49% of the total population. Half of Saudi women are under 27 years old.
