Companies describe their experience in virtual trade shows

This Thursday (24) in your ANBA Bulletin: Businesspeople and executives from Brazilian exporting companies that have participated in virtual trade shows describe their experience, the positive and negative aspects. Virtual trade shows have been hosted to replace onsite ones, which have been suspended to curb the spread of the COVID-19.

Brazilian cooperative Justa Trama produces organic cotton clothing and saw a threefold increase in sales amid the pandemic. These difficult times have prompted many to strive for more sustainable shopping.

Tunisia looks to double its leather and footwear exports by 2030. The country bets on adding value and attracting foreign investors, as per numbers provided by Tunisia’s ambassador to Brasília, Mohamed Hedi Soltani.

And Syria is floating a heifer tender, and Brazil have cut import duties to zero on more COVID-related items.

Brazilian cooperative Justa Trama founder Nelsa Nespolo takes great pride in the organization’s work approach. Justa Trama straddles the entire cotton clothing production chain, from farm to shop. Currently in its 15 year in existence, the cooperative saw a threefold increase in revenue amid the pandemic. Nespolo said these difficult times have prompted many to strive for more sustainable and fair shopping.

The Brazilian company sells product to countries including the United States, France, Canada, Portugal, England and Australia.

Tunisia looks to double its leather and footwear exports

Leather and footwear exports from Tunisia quadrupled to EUR 550 million in 2019 from ten years earlier, as per numbers provided to ANBA by Tunisia’s ambassador to Brasília, Mohamed Hedi Soltani. He said the Tunisian administration intends to see twice as much in export revenues by 2030, by relying on strategies including offering a variety of higher value-added products.

To mark the 140th anniversary of Lebanese immigration to Brazil, publishing house Ernest Books and restaurant Alyah Sweets, in São Paulo, have come together to host a festival. The event is taking place from September 19 to next Sunday (27). It features a special menu based on recipes from the book Culinária Libanesa (Lebanese Cuisine), by Salma Hage, out through Phaidon in Britain, and being launched through Ernest Books in Brazil during the festival.

Brazil cuts imports duties to zero on more COVID items

More 12 products related to the fight against the coronavirus were included in the list of goods with temporary import tax exemption in Brazil. Last week, in addition to increasing the number of exempted products, the government extended the exemption for products included in the previous list. The resolution was in force until September 30 and was extended until October 30. COVID-19 vaccines were included in the list.

Syria floats heifer tender

Bolsonaro accepts credentials from UAE ambassador

Brazil’s president Jair Bolsonaro accepted credentials this Monday (21) from five incoming ambassadors to Brazil, during a closed-door ceremony at government seat Palácio do Planalto. The newly inaugurated diplomats are, Evagoras Vryonides, of Cyprus; Guillermo Valles Galmés, of Uruguay; Ahmad Hussain Dayo, of Pakistan; Suresh K. Reddy, of India; and Saleh Ahmad Salem Alzaraim Al-Suwaidi, of the United Arab Emirates.
