A granddaughter of Lebanese immigrants in the gardens of Brazil’s Pedro II
This Monday (15) in your ANBA Bulletin: Brazil’ journalist and author of Lebanese ascent Ivna Chedier Maluly wrote a book that mixes passages of the history of the Brazilian empire and fiction based on her experience growing up in the gardens of the Imperial Museum in the city of Petrópolis, Brazil. The government of Egypt launched an energy-saving plan aimed at generating more natural gas surplus for export, thus ensuring a higher dollar inflow. Lourdina Jean Rabieh was born in Lebanon and lived in the country for 14 years. But the civil war, which began in 1975, forced her and her family to leave their homeland, searching for a new destination to live peacefully. “We never imagined we would stay here forever, but the war only had a truce after 15 years. I could only return to Lebanon when I was almost 30 years old,” said Lourdina.

The garden of the Imperial Museum, in the city of Petrópolis, state of Rio de Janeiro, was where Brazilian Ivna Chedier Maluly (pictured above) used to stroll as a child. The outdoor area of the former summer palace of the Brazilian Emperor Dom Pedro II served as a place for games and even school lessons for the granddaughter of Lebanese immigrants, who used the affective memory generated by that time to write the book ‘Memórias de Pedro, o último imperador do Brasil’ [‘Memories of Pedro, the last emperor of Brazil,’ in free translation]. The work, recommended for readers over 12 years old, is being launched in the Brazilian publishing market.

The Egyptian government launched an electrical power saving strategy intending to reduce natural gas consumption in the country. The goal is to increase gas exports, benefiting from the increase in global prices for the commodity. The Egyptian Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly (pictured above), spoke on television about the plan, which is directly related to the current situation of global crisis. Egypt is a producer and exporter of natural gas, a product that can be used to generate electrical power.
