São Paulo – The Port of Duqm in Oman has its modernization 86% completed, according to an announcement by the Public Authority for Special Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) and published in the official local news agency Oman News Agency (ONA).
The project involved supplying and installing gantries and cranes as part of the second part of the commercial operation implementation at the port, located in the municipality of Duqm.
In August last year, OPAZ granted German company Liebherr the design for the manufacture, supply, installation, testing, and operation of cranes and gantry cranes.
The project includes the installation of four modern automated cranes to transfer containers from ships to the port’s quay, with a load capacity of 65 tonnes each, in addition to 12 rubber tire gantries for 41 tonnes.
The cranes use 5G technology and fiber optic systems for data transmission and remote control. According to the ONA, they have high performance, with fast handling of containers. They also feature smart steering, automatic cargo lifting, and landing.
