This Thursday (18) in your ANBA Bulletin: ‘The Book of Misers’ by Iraq’s Al-Jâhiz got translated into Brazilian Portuguese via the Literatura Livre project. Literary works from around the world are being translated into Brazilian Portuguese and made available online free of charge. Multi-sector trade show Qatar Matchmaking Event will take place in early March. Registration is available for Brazilian enterprises. São Paulo – There were 1,814 women working in Saudi Arabia’s judicial system in 2020. So said Noura Al-Ghunaim, the director of the Women’s Department at the Ministry of Justice, Arab News reported this Wednesday (17). The number of licensed female lawyers climbed 66% from 618 in 2019 to 1,029 last year.

Literary works from around the world are being translated into Brazilian Portuguese and made available online free of charge. This month saw the Literatura Livre (Free Literature) project release ‘The Book of Misers’ by Al-Jâhiz. Originally written in Arabic, the book was translated by Safa Jubran, a professor of Arabic Language and Literature at the Department of Oriental Languages of the Faculty of Philosophy, Language and Human Sciences (FFLCH) at the University of São Paulo (USP). The project is an initiative of the São Paulo chapter of the Social Service for Commerce (Sesc-SP) and Instituto Mojo de Comunicação Intercultural. Pictured above is one of the book’s illustrations.

Former Nigerian finance minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was appointed on Monday (15) as the first woman and first African director-general of the World Trade Organization (WTO). Okonjo-Iweala starts her new job in early March, and her term, renewable, will expire on August 31, 2025.
