This Monday (22) in your ANBA Bulletin: The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce’s international office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates turned two years old. Upon opening of the outpost in February 2019, the entity began taking in Arab enterprises as members. Brazilian wheat exports to Arab countries hit record in January. Experts say the growth is related to a high demand in the Arab countries and a smaller supply from major producer countries. And several online courses have been made available in Brazil on topics related to the Arab world, from literature to the women issue and history.

 | The Group of Studies and Research on the Middle East (GEPOM), with the support of the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI), will offer several online courses from March to April. The four-class courses address history, gender, international relations, and other topics related to the Arab culture.

 | Morocco announced that it will invest MAD 52.1 billion (USD 5.8 billion) in renewable energy. Major solar projects are underway in different cities, and the country is looking to meet over 52% of its electricity needs through renewable resources by 2030, as well as to become self-sufficient in the long haul.

The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC)’s international office in Dubai turned two years old this Friday (19). It has since helped usher in new dynamics in Brazil’s relations with the Arab countries, based on a closer connection between businesspeople and organizations in both regions.

In January, wheat and meslin exports from Brazil to the Arab countries fetched USD 26.78 million, a record-high since 2017. They reached 124,715 tonnes, and top buyers were Saudi Arabia and Palestine. The figures are from the Market Intelligence department of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC).

rasília-based Institute of Arab Brazilian Culture (ICAB) is starting a new short online course project with guest lecturers and professors aimed at spreading knowledge on the Internet. The first course will be taught by Mohammed Hadjab, a strategy analyst at the French Institute for International and Strategic Affairs.

Brazil will slash its bicycle import tariff from 35% to 30% starting March. The rate will then drop to 25% in July and finally 20% in December. The move was made public this Thursday (18) on the Federal Gazette and announced by president Jair Bolsonaro on social media last Wednesday (17).

Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo division of Dubai-based carrier Emirates, reached an agreement with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to prioritize transport, particularly to developing countries, of Covid-19 vaccines, medication, medical equipment and other essential supplies to fight the pandemic.
