Startups from Brazil pitch their solutions to Arabs
This Monday (27) in your ANBA Bulletin: A Brazilian startup mission started last Sunday in the Gulf. Following a schedule to acquire knowledge, exchange experiences and search for opportunities in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, the entrepreneurs will present their services and products to potential partners in the countries. Brazilian businesspeople and executives exhibited at Gulfood, the food and beverages trade show that took place last week in Dubai. They noticed a high number of visitors and the presence of importers from different parts of the world, which allowed them to expand markets. Meet the new ambassador from Syria to Brazil. The new Syrian ambassador to Brasília, Rania Al Haj Ali, visited the headquarters of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) in São Paulo this Friday (24), where she met with the organization’s president, ambassador Osmar Chohfi, and had lunch with representatives of the Together for Syria [Juntos pela Síria] campaign, which will donate medical equipment and medicines to the Arab country.

Spending by Brazilians abroad totaled USD 1.246 billion in January this year, informed the Brazilian Central Bank (BC) this Friday (24). The result is 80.5% higher than recorded in the same month last year when Brazilians spent USD 690 million abroad.

Halal brought together Brazilians and Arabs to a cocktail party this Thursday (23) in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. The event was held by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) as an activity of the Halal do Brasil project, which aims to boost the participation of Brazilian companies in the global halal market.

The global defense and security market is booming, which reflects in the International Defense Exhibition & Conference (IDEX), a sector show in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, with the participation of Brazilian companies. “The market is booming, the show is bustling,” Armando Lemos, executive director of the Brazilian Association of Defense and Security Industries (ABIMDE), told ANBA by telephone. IDEX runs from February 20 to 24.

Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs made public a statement on Wednesday (22) reporting that it will send humanitarian assistance to Syria. The Arab country was hit by earthquakes that caused death and destruction earlier this month. Turkey was also hit by the disaster and received assistance from the Brazilian government. The ministry reported that the donation is taking place “as decided by the president of the Republic Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in humanitarian response to the earthquakes that took place on Feb. 2 across different regions of Syria and Turkey.”

The Brazilian market was the subject of a meeting at the Egyptian Chamber of Commerce in Alexandria (AlexCham) this week and could also be the theme of a workshop for the Egyptian institution’s members. The regional director of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) Office in Cairo, Michael Gamal, and the director of International and Government Relations of the office, Rania Hagrass, were received at the AlexCham and spoke with the advisor for International Cooperation for Foreign Affairs of the organization, Passent Magdy Kassem.
