Businessman and furniture designer Sidnei Santos is looking for sponsorship for his latest project: a reality show that will see him go to a car graveyard in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and create décor items and pieces of furniture from found luxury car parts. The show will be named “The Speed of Art,” and Santos needs BRL 2 million (roughly USD 370,000) to produce season one.

 | A scientist from Qatar, Isra Yousef Marei (pictured above), won a prize from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and L’Oreal. Chosen for her postdoctoral work in biotechnology, Marei accepted the prize from the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Middle East Regional Young Talents Program last month.

Vehicle exports from Brazil were up 21.9% year on year in January, National Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association (Anfavea) reported on Thursday (4). Car sales reached 25,000 units last month. Month on month, though, they declined by 35.8%.

The volume of mineral products exported from Brazil stepped up by 2% year on year in 2020, Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM) reported. Revenue from exports climbed by 11% from the previous year, reaching USD 37 billion. China secured its position as the top destination of iron ore from Brazil. The Asian country had accounted for 62% of exports in 2019. In 2020, it accounted for 72%.

The number of new businesses in Brazil was up 6% in 2020 from 2019, according to the annual Business Map bulleting from the Brazilian Ministry of Economy. Last year saw 3,359,750 enterprises open in Brazil. The number of companies that went out of business is 1,044,696, resulting in 2.3 million active enterprises in the country. The number of companies that ceased to exist was down 11.3%.

Brazil’s Foreign minister Ernesto Araújo and his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, talked on Monday (1) via video conference, Egyptian newspaper Al Ahram reported. The ministers discussed ways to encourage more cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the projects that Egypt has implemented in Africa to achieve the “common good” for African countries.

The government of Dubai, United Arab Emirates said it will impose novel restrictions on the hospitality industry, including bars, restaurants, malls and hotels. The measures will be effective from Tuesday (2) to February 28, the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO) said.
