Fruit industry looks to the UAE

This Wednesday (10) in your ANBA Bulletin: A delegation of Brazilian fruit industry executives are in the United Arab Emirates looking for business opportunities. They hail from six companies affiliated with the Frutas do Brasil program of the Brazilian Fruit Growers-Exporters Association (Abrafrutas) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil). “We’ll try to have something lined up before we even leave here, but the trip has been great as a way of becoming familiar with the market,” Abrafrutas CEO Eduardo Brandão told ANBA’s Isaura Daniel. He’s hoping to sell items such as grape, mango, banana, avocado and processed fruits.

And when it comes to poultry, the UAE is a major importer. H1 saw 192,000 tons shipped from Brazil, up 35.7% from a year ago. “The Arab markets have kept a good product imports flow, with a solid growth to the United Arab Emirates,” said Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) CEO Ricardo Santin.

And Egypt’s Economic and Commercial Office in São Paulo is hosting a culture festival from July 23 to August 4 at Club Homs, São Paulo. There’ll be paintings by four Egyptian artists, a handicraft bazaar sale, typical foods, henna tattoos, Arabic calligraphy and other attractions. “I imagined this would be a good promotional event for Egypt,” said consul and Office chief Mohamed ElKhatib.
