This Monday (29) in your ANBA Bulletin: check out Bruna Garcia's special report on the Hajj. This year, the big annual pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia will take place from August 9 to 14. Some 200 Brazilians are expected to join along, including Luiz Henrique Sousa, a Muslim convert out of São Paulo who's taking his first trip ever to the holy city. ““I’m going with a religious perspective, but also a historical one because of my education,” the History teacher said. Those who've been there recall their experiences. “It’s a unique emotion being so close to God. Many stretches that are pure emotion. Mecca is definitely a spectacle of grandeur,” said administrative assistant Carla Sanches Taky Eldin, who made the pilgrimage in 2012. Read up on their recollections, find out details and how to go if you're in Brazil.
The 14th Arab World Film Festival will run from August 7 to 14 at Cinesesc, São Paulo. Out of the 12 featured movies, four were never shown in Brazil, and seven were made by women. The Festival is held by the Institute of Arab Culture (ICArabe) and the Social Service of Commerce (Sesc-SP), with sponsorship from the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Muslim Associations in Brazil (Fambras) and Instituto do Sono. Films include “Unveil,” a documentary by Brazilian filmmaker Joy Ernani. She and Algeria's Sofia Djama, who made “The Blessed,” will sit down to speak with the audience.
And don't forget: Tuesday (30) will see the Arab Chamber host the lecture “Trademark registration as a competitive tool in the Arab world,” by Mariana Vicentini Taylor, a partner at law firm Souto, Correa, Cesa, Lummertz & Amaral Advogados; Danielle Cordeiro and Diva Nascimento, executives with certification company Intertek; and Arab Chamber certification analyst Laércio Zeferino.
