Egypt to play Brazil in Olympic football quarterfinals

This Thursday (29) in your ANBA Bulletin: Egypt will face Brazil on Saturday at 7 am (BRT) in the quarterfinals of the men’s Olympic football tournament. And check out the medals the Arab countries have won.

Brazil’s health regulator Anvisa said China’s Sinopharm has applied for emergency use authorization for its COVID-19 vaccine. It has not undergone clinical trials in Brazil but has been tested in countries like the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Argentina, and Peru. An app can now issue a vaccination certificate in three languages in Brazil. And Brazil has extended the list of medical, hospital and hygiene products that can’t be exported as they are essential to fighting COVID-19 in the country.

And Lebanese Brazilian author Cristina Judar has launched her new book Elas marchavam sob o sol [They marched under the sun]. The author was shortlisted for the Jabuti Award in 2018 and won São Paulo Prize for Literature with her previous novel.

In Elas marchavam sob o sol [They marched under the sun], the author brings the perspectives of several narrators, particularly two young women, that draw a parallel between modern and ancestral and see their life stories getting closer and closer together.

Egypt faces Brazil in Olympics quarterfinals

Brazil will face its second Arab opponent in men’s football at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. After beating Saudi Arabia by 3-1 this Wednesday (28) and securing its first place in Group D, the Brazilian national team will face Egypt in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 7:00 am BRT (12:00 pm EET) in Saitama.

Arab countries already won six medals at Olympics

The Arab countries have already won six medals at the Tokyo Olympics between Tunisia, Jordan, Egypt, and Kuwait. Tunisia is the Arab country with the best position in the medals table, in 12th place with one gold and one silver. In swimming, Tunisian Ahmed Hafnaoui (pictured) earned gold in men’s 400 m freestyle. Silver went to Mohamed Khalil Jendoubi in men’s taekwondo (-58kg).

According to data released by Brazil’s Arab Culture Institute (ICArabe), which organized the program, 5,603 registrations were received from Brazil and 17 other countries. The classes, which occurred from February to July this year, got 3,356 participants on the Zoom platform and over 10,000 views on YouTube.

IMF improves Brazil’s growth estimate

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) improved Brazil’s growth prospects this year due to foreign trade performance but reduced the estimated increase for 2022. The IMF’s World Economic Outlook report, released this Tuesday (27), revealed the fund predicts a 5.3% growth in the Brazilian Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2021, 1.6% more than expected in April. However, for 2022 the growth projection was reduced by 0.7% to 1.9%.
