This Monday (8) in your ANBA Bulletin: a story on Hala Bugaighis of Libya and Maysoun Odeh Gangat of Palestine, who told their stories during the online event "Arab Women Who Inspire," hosted by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce's women's committee on International Women's Day. Bugaighis runs a women-oriented business incubator and a research center in Libya. Maysoun runs a radio station for female listeners. Find out what they think, how they live and what they said about the impact of the pandemic on women's lives in their countries. Also featured in ANBA: Brazilian cosmetics company Private Cosméticos became halal certified, an attestation that its products are manufactured in compliance with Islamic rules. This should help fuel sales to Muslim consumers. Ambassadors from Gulf countries met with Brazil's president Jair Bolsonaro last week to discuss ways to enhance trade relations. And Pope Francis had a warm welcome during a visit to Iraq. He relayed a message of peace to high-ranking Iraqi officials.

So said the participants of the online event “Arab Women Who Inspire” hosted by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC)’s women’s committee WAHI – Women Who Inspire on March 8, International Women’s Day.

São Paulo – Hala Bugaighis of Libya has been advocating women’s economic inclusion for six years now. Meanwhile, in Palestine – another Arab country –, for over a decade Maysoun Odeh Gangat has been running Nisaa FM, the region’s first radio station for women, which she founded herself.

Cooperation in agriculture, infrastructure, defense, the oil industry and food security and were some of the topics discussed during luncheon by Brazil’s president, Jair Bolsonaro, and the ambassadors of Gulf countries last Wednesday (3). The meeting took place at the residence of Kuwait’s ambassador to Brasília, Nasser Riden Almotairi.

Brazilian cosmetics company Private Cosméticos got its products halal-certified. The certificate, which attests that the goods are made in compliance with Islamic rules and are fit for consumption by Muslims, was awarded in early February.

Exports from Brazil proved relatively resilient amid the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, underpinned by stronger sales of staple goods. According to the Brazilian Central Bank, a hike in exports of soya, especially in Midwest Brazil, and iron ore, in the North, whose prices went up.
