Tunisians want to sell organic olive oil to Brazil
This Monday (23) in your ANBA Bulletin: Arabs participated in the food and beverage event APAS show that took place in São Paulo, Brazil. The exhibitors included Tunisia’s Baya Olive Oil, which plans on breaking into Brazil with its organic olive oils. The Jordan Brazilian Business Association aims to bring more exhibitors from its country to 2023’s show. Egypt’s Food Export Council studies new niche markets for Egyptian exporters in Brazilian food market. Brazilian publishing house Tabla will launch Gaza: Terra de poesia [Gaza, Land of Poetry]. An anthology with poems by young authors born in Gaza will be translated from Arabic into Brazilian Portuguese, and the funds raised from sales will be given to Ramallah’s Tamer Institute for Community Education.

The International Center of Arab and Islamic Studies (CEAI) of the Federal University of Sergipe will hold online from Friday (20) through Tuesday (24) the international event “Altered States Seminars: (Re)Imagining Politics in North Africa (2021-2021)”. It will include three debates to be streamed on YouTube.

Egypt’s Food Export Council (FEC) is assessing new strategies to ship different products to Brazil. The Arab country brought 13 companies to this year’s APAS Show. The show is the biggest in the supermarket sector in Latin America. The initiative was carried out in partnership between the council and the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC).

Jordan wants to bring more companies to next year’s food and beverage fair APAS Show. The chairman of the Jordan Brazilian Business Association, Jamal Fariz (pictured above), told ANBA that 25 companies are already confirmed, and that 30 to 40 companies are expected to come to 2023’s event.

Brazilian publishing house Tabla has launched the collective project Gaza, land of poetry [Gaza, terra da poesia] to highlight the cultural and literary production of the Gaza region in Palestine. Profits raised from book sales will go to the Tamer Institute for Community Education, a non-governmental institution founded in 1989, based in Ramallah, that works with literature and education throughout the Palestinian territory, including Gaza.

Tunisian company Baya Olive Oil markets premium and basic lines of olive oil. The brand also offers products with the Organics of Brazil certification. The brand exhibited at this year’s edition of the APAS Show, the biggest in the supermarket sector in Latin America. The event started on Monday (16) and ended on Thursday (19) in São Paulo.The company has its own production plant in the city of Sfax, Tunisia. The company’s CEO, Sabeur Fourati, stated this is the first time the brand has exhibited in Brazil, and he made great contacts during the event.

Tunisia’s Central Bank decided to raise the key interest rate earlier this week, from 6.25% to 7% to combat high inflation. The Executive Board of the bank said it assessed the local economic and financial landscape and the latest data show a rapid increase in inflation rates around the world tied with a slow global growth recovery driven by the crisis ushered in by the Russia-Ukraine war.

The Brazilian Congress has authorized the government to donate COVID-19 immunizers to countries affected by the pandemic as a humanitarian cooperation. This is provided for in the Law 14,343 published in the Official Gazette on Friday (20).
