This Monday (5) in your ANBA Bulletin: Brazilian fashion will be featured at the Arab Fashion Week (AFW), taking place in Dubai, UAE from October 21 to 24. Five Brazilian fashion and jewelry designers will showcase their collections in the AFW’s Brazil Noble section, whose purpose is to introduce Brazil’s high-end fashion industry in the Middle East. The municipality of Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro is looking for investors to join its new Sustainable Development Hub, which will sit in a 2 million sqm area near the local seaport. And Uruguayan researcher Ana Laura Deleon launched in August her website Estudios Arabes e Islamicos, aimed at taking information on the Arab countries to the Spanish speakers. Deleon lives in São Paulo. |

The Economic Development Secretariat in Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro is seeking investors for its Sustainable Development Hub project. The goal is to diversify the economy away from tourism and royalties from oil exploration. “Tourism is indeed our vocation, but we want to move beyond that to create more jobs and development for the city,” the Secretariat’s Employment and Income superintendent João Marcello Neves told ANBA.

Researcher Ana Laura Deleon launched last August her website Estudios Arabes e Islamicos, aimed at taking information on the Arab countries to the Spanish speakers. The virtual space features one section for academic papers and others for news and interactions. “The site aims at connecting people interested in learning more about the Arabs and Muslims. If you want to travel and learn about their culture, or maybe work with Arabs and learn about their trade, this is for you as it uses knowledge, which is the most relevant tool for building this relation with the rest of Latin America,” Deleon told ANBA.

The work of five designers from Brazil will be on showcase at the 12th Arab Fashion Week (AFW), taking place in Dubai from October 21 to 24 and streaming online. So far, fashion designers Vitor Zerbinato, Emannuelle Junqueira and Sandro Barros and jewelry designer Andrea Conti have been confirmed.

Imports slowed down faster than exports in September in Brazil, yielding a record-high trade surplus. Exports exceeded imports by USD 6.164 billion, the strongest result for the month since record-keeping began in 1989.

Eight months into the Covid-19 pandemic, with 33.5 million cases and 1 million people dead from the disease, the African continent stands out with relatively low infection and death rates. After weekly infection rates peaked in late July, Africa was expected to take the place of the Americas as the pandemic’s next epicenter, but cases have been declining ever since.
