Brasília – The 2015/2016 grain crop will be smaller than what was expected, but even so it will reach a record level, in the assessment of André Nassar, secretary of Agricultural Policy of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply. This Wednesday (4), the National Supply Company (Conab) reported that the Brazilian grain production in 2015/2016 should reach 210.3 million tons, 1.3% above the previous crop (207.7 million tons). In the previous survey, the forecast called for 210.5 million tons for 2015/2016.
“This crop was planted with the expectation of reaching 212 million tons and is now being delineated at around 210 million tons. There is a slight decline in productivity, but I’m sure that this won’t affect producers’ incomes”, said Nassar. For the secretary, with the dollar appreciation, the producer’s income with exports goes up. “Since we’re talking about a scenario with good prices for producers, especially due to the exchange rate, the more they produce the more interesting it is from a profitability point of view”, he emphasized.
