São Paulo – The sports organization Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP) hosts on Saturday (5) and Sunday (6) a jiu-jitsu tournament at the Barra Olympic Park in the city of Rio de Janeiro. This will be the second round of the 6th Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu, which due to the COVID-19, takes place amid several security measures.
The competitors include big names in the sport, including Bia Basílio in the featherweight category under 55 kg; Gustavo Batista in the category under 94 kg; and the brothers Alex, Anderson and Erick Munis. The tournament will feature 1,096 athletes. Brow- and purple-belt athletes compete on Saturday, while black-belt, adult and master athletes compete on Sunday.
The gym will not be open to the audience, but the disputes can be watched online on the AJP’s channel on YouTube on the days of the tournament from 9 am (BRT).
The sports event is supported by the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is a jiu-jitsu fan. The sport is widely spread in the United Arab Emirates, where many Brazilians teach and promote jiu-jitsu.
