São Paulo – The non-oil trade through Abu Dhabi ports, the United Arab Emirates’ capital city, was down by 5.4%, to USD 58.08 billion in 2019, according to figures released this Thursday (12) by the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi.
The figures showed a 9.2% decrease in imports from USD 30.77 billion in 2018 to USD 27.91 billion in 2019 and a 10.1% decrease in exports, to USD 15.7 billion, while the value of re-exports increased by 9.8% year-on-year, to USD 14.38 billion.
Manufactures topped the list of most exported merchandise, amounting to USD 12.25. Food and beverage exports grossed USD 1.63 billion, and consumer goods amounted to USD 933.9 million.
Transport equipment and parts took the lion’s share of re-exports during the period, amounting to USD 6.56 billion, followed by consumer goods, at USD 2.76 billion.
Manufactures also topped the emirate’s imports list, accounting for USD 11.7 billion, followed by transport equipment and parts, at USD 6.7 billion.
Saudi Arabia was Abu Dhabi’s largest trade partner, accounting for USD 15.06 billion, followed by the United States at USD 3.58 billion. China comes third at USD 3.13 billion, Japan fourth at USD 2.9 billion, and Kuwait fifth at USD 2.8 billion.
Overall, trade increased by 2.2% last December from a year before, driven by re-exports and exports growth by 6.5% and 4.2% respectively, while imports slid by 1.3% year-on-year.
