São Paulo – The United Arab Emirates is preparing to host the Global Summit of Women 2023, which will take place in Abu Dhabi on February 21 and 22, under the theme “Role of Female Leaders in Peace Building, Social Integration, and Driving Prosperity.” Organized by the World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) and the General Women’s Union (GWU), the event is being held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of women receiving the right to vote.
The summit will be held under the patronage of Fatima bint Mubarak, chairwoman of the GWU, president of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and supreme chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF). She is wife of the late founder of the UAE, Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and is referred to as the mother of the Nation.
Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, chairman of the TWMCC, was quoted as saying in a statement that “[the council] believes in the significant role women play in the world, especially their growing role in promoting peace and social integration, and shaping a more prosperous future.” He added that. Sheikha Fatima’s patronage of the summit is but further confirmation of her leading role in supporting and empowering Emirati women, which is an extension of her humanitarian work journey.
This summit comes at an age that is seeing an urgent need for a global platform that support dialogue, unite efforts and views and find solutions for common challenges, such as the gender gap, domestic violence, social and economic marginalization, and providing further opportunities for women to lead in society, Al Nuaimi explained.
GWU secretary-general Noura Al Suwaidi said that UAE’s hosting of the Global Summit of Women 2023 spotlights the UAE leadership’s vision, which recognizes supporting and empowering women as a key priority.
“The summit constitutes a world-level moral commitment to adopting new, more-inclusive strategies and solutions to deal with hurdles that hinder the progress of women, and enhance their essential role in driving sustainable development and promoting peace and security worldwide,” Al Suwaidi explained.
The event will see the participation of many world-renowned female leaders, presenting a perfect opportunity to strengthen international cooperation to birth a new reality where women are more enabled to be leaders and decision-makers, in line with the UAE’s efforts to create a conducive environment for women to thrive.
The summit is set to feature female pioneers in political, religious, business, social, cultural and scientific fields. The information is from UAE state news agency WAM.
