São Paulo – The Afro-Brazilian Society for Social and Cultural Development (Afrobras) is going to launch AfrobrasNews on January 25th, a news agency that, according to the organisation, should broadcast information about the black population of Brazil and of the world.
According to the organisation, the release marks the anniversary of São Paulo – celebrated on the 25th. In São Paulo, there are 3 million afro descendants, making it the city with the largest black population outside Africa.
Afrobras promotes a series of initiatives turned to social insertion of the black population, and the best known is Zumbi dos Palmares College, a higher-education institution in the state of São Paulo where, according to the organisation, 90% of the students consider themselves afro descendants.
The articles published by the agency, according to an Afrobras press statement, will be of interest not only to black populations, but to all those in favour of Brazilian diversity. It should count on material produced in Brazil and abroad. The site has a profile on Twitter.
