São Paulo – Brazilian agribusiness exports declined in 2014 from 2013. Last year, the sector exported the equivalent of US$ 96.75 billion, down 3.2% from 2013. According to data released this Friday (9th) by the Ministry of Agriculture, imports also dropped, by 2.6%, to US$ 16.61 billion. The resulting agribusiness trade surplus was US$ 80.13 billion, down 3.3% from 2013.
Asia was the economic bloc that imported the most from Brazil in 2014, at US$ 39.32 billion, down 2.2% from 2013. The European Union was the second leading importer, at US$ 21.47 billion (down 2.9%) and the Nafta (comprising Mexico, United States and Canada) ranked third at US$ 8.2 billion (down 0.8%). The Middle East was fourth at US$ 7.2 billion, down 12.8% from the preceding year.
Country-wise, the leading buyers were China, United States, Netherlands, Russia, Germany, Venezuela, Hong Kong, Japan, Italy, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Spain, South Korea, Egypt, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, France, Thailand, Vietnam and United Kingdom. The top-selling products were soy bean, bran and oil, meats, sugar and ethanol, forest products and coffee.
