São Paulo – Agriculture generated 156,000 new, formal, direct jobs in Brazil, between January and May of 2004. The data, released this Thursday (24) by the Ministry of Agriculture and Supply press adviser, are in the General Record of the Employed and Unemployed (Caged).
Agribusiness accounted for 15.1% of formally registered positions open in Brazil during that period. Excluding firings in the last five months, the positive balance is 86,800 jobs, a 6.7% increase from the same period in 2003.
