São Paulo – Alcohol production from the current sugarcane harvest reached 2.68 billion litres on the 1st of June, a result which is 14% greater than last year, as was announced yesterday (20) by the Union of the Sugarcane Agro-industry of São Paulo (Unica). The increase in supply of alcohol fuel caused a drop in prices for consumers in gas stations.
According to the balance released by Unica, the harvest of the current crop in the Mid-South region has already resulted in nearly 70 million tonnes processed. "This raw material allowed for the production of 2.68 billion litres of alcohol (1.07 billion anhydrous and 1.61 billion hydrated) and 4,03 million tonnes of sugar." The anhydrous alcohol is added to gasoline and hydrated alcohol goes straight to the tank of the vehicle.
