São Paulo – Algerian Taoufik Makhloufi arrived in second place in the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics’ 800 meters on Monday (15) evening at the Olympic Stadium and won the silver medal. He finished the race in 1 minute, 42 seconds and 61 hundredths.
The race was won by Kenyan David Lekuta Rudisha in 1:42.15. Rudisha retained his London 2012 Olympic title. In the British capital, he broke the world and Olympic records with the time of 1:40.91, which is still standing. In third place came North American Clayton Murphy with the time of 1:42.93.
Makhloufi, 28 years old, is the current Olympic champion in the 1,500 meters dash. This Tuesday (16) the first heats of the event took place, with the Algerian runner coming in first in the second heat, securing a place in the semifinals, scheduled for Thursday (18) night.
