São Paulo – Aluminium company Lemnos Metais announced the implementation of a plant for processing recyclable aluminium, copper and plastic residue in the state of Minas Gerais, according to the state government website. The company intends to open the unit in the municipality of Sarzedo by August 2012. Works should start in August this year.
The project should see investment of 32.9 million reals (US$ 20.8 million) and generate 193 direct jobs, as well as 3,860 indirect ones. The company is headquartered in the municipality of Três Rios, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, where it has a production capacity of 1,500 monthly tonnes. At its factory headquarters, it processes recycled aluminium alloys.
The investment in Minas Gerais should take advantage of local raw material. “We want to use the raw material available in the region of [state capital] Belo Horizonte to change the state from an exporter into an explorer of waste, “said the company director Lucas Nercessian, during a meeting with the state government.
Lemnos was established in 2009 and started producing in the second quarter of 2010. In the first quarter of last year it manufactured an average of 600 tonnes of aluminium alloy per month, and late last year it reached its full capacity. The company has 60 suppliers of raw material.
