From the Newsroom*
São Paulo – The Brazil-Arab News Agency (ANBA) is among the six finalists from southeast Brazil for the first phase of the e-Journalism Award of the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae). The series "Notable Small Ones", written by journalists Débora Rubin and Geovana Pagel, was published on December 26th, 27th and 28th, 2007. The series shows that, despite the unfriendly interest rates when the time comes to ask for credit, the myriad taxes and the problems faced when it comes to exports, micro and small businesses are coming up, becoming increasingly professional, and fighting for a place in the market like grown-ups.
The award is granted by the Sebrae and promoted by Revista Imprensa magazine, and its goal is to provide recognition to work featured in the national and regional print media that deals with the universe of micro and small companies in Brazil. In its first edition, the award had 618 enrolees, including journalists from all over Brazil. Enrolees competed in seven categories: Press Journalism (general), Press Journalism (segmented), Radio Journalism, Television Journalism, and Web Journalism.
A total of 100,000 reals (approximately US$ 60,000) will be distributed among the winners, 12,500 reals (US$ 7,400) for each category, 12,500 reals to the winner of the Special Prize, and 25,000 reals (US$ 14,800) to the Grand Prize winner. For this first phase, 90 contestants were selected. Visit the site www.portalimprensa.com.br/premiosebrae and check out the finalists. The list of national finalists in each category should be disclosed by late April.
