São Paulo – The president of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Marcelo Sallum, received a medal that was sent by the president of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, to honour the work of the organization in establishing closer commercial ties between Brazilian and Palestinian businessmen, and for its support to the Palestinian cause. The medal was awarded by the Palestinian ambassador Ibrahim Alzeben last Thursday evening (1st) in São Paulo.
“We acknowledge the role of the Arab Brazilian Chamber and its president, Marcelo Sallum, in supporting the Palestinian issue, because they are working directly in developing Palestine’s economy and helping our people,” said Alzeben.
He said the awarding of the medal was a direct order from president Abbas. “The Arab Brazilian Chamber is doing a very important work, bringing the Arab world closer to Brazil, and this effort deserves recognition. “That is why his excellency the president (Abbas) ordered for this golden medal to be granted Mr Marcelo,” he explained. Aside from the medal, Sallum was awarded a certificate of recognition for the work of the Chamber.
The Palestinian ambassador listed the main aspects of the Chamber’s work to support Palestine’s economy. “The Arab Brazilian Chamber makes a great effort for bringing Palestinian and Brazilian businessmen closer, foster imports of Palestinian products, and sales of Brazilian products to Palestine. The role of the Arab Brazilian Chamber is crucial in establishing closer relations, determining products of interest, and areas of cooperation with Palestine and the other Arab countries,” he said.
The award ceremony was also attended by Michel Alaby, the Arab Brazilian Chamber CEO, Riad Younes, the Marketing vice president, Ramez Goussous, advisor of the Chamber’s Council for Institutional and International Relations, Nahid Chicani and Mohamad Abdouni Neto, both of whom are directors.
