São Paulo – The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) delivered 200 food kits in São Paulo late last week and earlier this week, as part of a social responsibility campaign launched in late March to help fight hunger, which has been made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The campaign was rolled out on March 25, Arab Community Day, during an online event hosted by the ABCC and the Arab House. People from across Brazil donated, as did ABCC staff and board members. The deliveries made in the past few days were the first ones made, with more to follow.
“The campaign’s first food kit donation went to the community of Brasilândia, which showed much gratitude. The ABCC also donated the equivalent of 100 food kits to the São Paulo City Hall’s Cidade Solidária program that will be delivered to the Red Cross,” says Claudia Yazigi Haddad, an ABCC director who’s also in the board of the ABCC’s women’s committee, WAHI – Women Who Inspire, which is supporting the campaign. Pictured at the top of this page are the food kits as they arrived in Brasilândia.
In launching the campaign, Claudia remarked that it has been over a year since the pandemic began and that, although Brazilians are very resilient, many people are in a critical situation and have gone hungry. “The Arab Chamber could never overlook this situation, and it has launched yet another donation campaign,” she said. Donations are still being accepted, via the Pix wire transfer key campanha@ccab.org.br.
Here’s more on this topic:
Ever since the pandemic began, the ABCC has done social responsibility work on many fronts to help fight Covid-19 and to support Brazilians as well as Arabs. It has donated face coverings and supplies to organizations and hospitals in Brazil. Donations were also made in Lebanon, in partnership with Arab-Brazilian organizations, diplomatic bodies, media companies and government.
