São Paulo – The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) issued a public statement this Wednesday (5) expressing its sympathy to the people of Lebanon and the Lebanese-descendant community in Brazil, after a blast killed dozens and wounded thousands on Tuesday at the Port of Beirut.
“The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce would like to publicly convey its deepest sympathy towards the vast community of Lebanese immigrant descendants in Brazil, as they find themselves struck with apprehension, grief and sadness over the events that unfolded yesterday (August 4) at the port in Lebanon’s capital Beirut,” the statement read.
The ABCC shared its condolences to the families and made itself available to welcome them. “
We would also like to extend our deepest condolences to the victims’ families, and to make ourselves available to help them to the best of our abilities. The tragedy in Lebanon is deeply felt in our organization, which works tirelessly to enhance ties between Brazil and the Arab League countries,” it went on. There are almost 12 million Arabs and Arab descendants living in Brazil, and most are of Lebanese background.
