Curitiba – The city of Curitiba, in the southern Brazilian state of Paraná, receives this Thursday (23) a committee of 45 environment specialists from Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Sudan and Kuwait. Professionals and researchers related to environmental matters in their countries, they are coming to Curitiba to participate at the 8th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP8), promoted by the United Nations Organisation (UN). The event started on the 20th and goes on up to the 31st of March.
Since the 13th this month the city became the setting of important discussions on the environment. It was when the 3rd Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (MOP3), event that ended on the 17th and raised heated debates on the feasibility of consumption of genetically modified organisms, especially in human nutrition. Issues such as this and the protection of natural resources have grasped world attention, for its consequences on life on the planet.
