São Paulo – The Arab Syrian Cultural Centre, located in the city of São Paulo, is going to promote a cultural evening next Wednesday (23rd). The event will include an art exhibition, a lecture and film screenings for people interested in learning more about Arab culture.
One of the actions scheduled is exhibition “Cumprimento para Palestina” (Greetings to Palestine), which will feature paintings by Arab descendent Salma Mugames. A lecture named “The reciprocal influence of two languages: Arabic and Portuguese,” with Antonio Carlos de Moraes Sartini, director of the Museum of Portuguese Language, in São Paulo.
Another event in the schedule is the screening of a film, “As ligações históricas entre as línguas portuguesa e árabe” (The historical ties between the Portuguese and Arabic languages). Activities will begin at 07:30 pm. Admittance is free, and according to information supplied by the Syrian Arab Cultural Centre, enrolment is not required.
The Arab Syrian Cultural Centre usually promotes activities focusing on Syrian and Arab culture, such as art exhibitions, dance presentations and lectures. Last August, for instance, there was a lecture on the modern Arab world, given by José Farhate. The centre also promotes free courses on Arabic language to Brazilians.
