São Paulo – The Arabic-Portuguese Dictionary, by the Lebanese Alphonse Nagib Sabbagh, will be launched on June 16th at the Syrian-Arab Cultural Centre, in São Paulo. The event will be jointly promoted with Movimento Poético Nacional (National Poetic Movement) and according to information disclosed today by the Cultural Centre, a cocktail party will be held starting at 08:00 pm.
The dictionary started being distributed to Brazilian bookstores in April and was co-edited along with the Almádena publishing house, based in Rio de Janeiro, which specializes in Arab subjects, and Fundação Biblioteca Nacional (National Library Foundation), of the Brazilian Ministry of Culture.
The author is the founder of the Sector of Arab Studies at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and lives in Brazil. He has worked with lexicography, writing techniques and dictionary writing for 40 years now. In 2004, he published a Portuguese-to-Arabic dictionary, under the Lebanese publishing house Librairie Du Liban.
