São Paulo – Having won its first Libertadores Cup title in America on Wednesday night (24), Atlético Mineiro supporters already have a certain destination by the end of the year: Morocco, the country to host the FIFA Club World Cup, in December. Eyeing this demand, Marrocos Tur, a travel operator specialized in the country in North Africa hopes to sell at least 2,000 travel packages to club fans.
“Today alone, our partners have already sold 40 packages,” said Slim Fsili, the company director. Packages by Marrocos Tur may be purchased by the public at partner companies. The operator offers ten different kinds of packages, starting at US$ 679, considering only the land part. “We are negotiating with partners and we may charter flights from Belo Horizonte to Marrakesh”, pointed out the executive. The competition will take place in Agadir and Marrakesh, but Atlético will only play in the last match.
At the operator’s site, supporters may find 10 basic packages, but Fsili stated that each partner operator may add different routes within these packages. Among the extra options, for example, tourists may spend a night in the desert, in a tent with a private bathroom, or visit the imperial cities of Morocco, which include Marrakesh, capital city Rabat, Fez and Meknes. “Some packages include luxury hotels for VIP tourists,” said the executive.
As FIFA has not yet started selling tickets, they are not included in the packages. Fsili reveals, however, that the company is already working to guarantee that tickets will not be lacking for Brazilian fans. “We are talking to the Local Organizing Committee to organize the purchase of 2,000 tickets for the semi-final and 2,000 for the final. If Atlético is not classified, they will be valid for the third place dispute,” he said.
At the operator’s site, fans may find the names and contacts of partners who sell Marrocos Tur packages. Currently, there are five companies, but this figure should grow, said Fsili. “We are establishing agreements with at least three more partners,” he said. Since the beginning of the week, Fsili has been training partner operators so they may learn more about Morocco for sale of packages.
The Cup
Atlético Mineiro is the fifth club to guarantee its position in the FIFA Club World Cup. Bayern Munich (Germany), Monterrey (Mexico), Auckland City (New Zealand) and Raja Casablanca (Morocco) are also going to participate in the competition, to take place from December 11th to 21st.
The matches to take place have not yet been defined. The winners of the Championship Leagues of Asian and Africa have yet to be defined so that all those participating may be defined. The names of the two clubs, however, will only be defined in November.
Marrakesh stadium has a 9,000-square-meter playing field and capacity for 41,356 spectators. It is 15 kilometres away from the city’s international airport.
