Menendez Amerino, the largest Brazilian cigar producer, is exporting its products to Lebanon. Last year, sales totalled US$ 28,000. In years to come, exports to another four Arab countries are forecasted, among them the United Arab Emirates.
The international status was obtained at the last World Organization for Animal Health meeting in Paris, which ended at the end of last week. This recognition is going to open a gateway into the foreign market for beef produced in the state. Acre slaughters around 300,000 heads of cattle a year.
The fair is one of the greatest in the Arab world. For this year, exhibitors from 32 countries, from sectors like food, shoes and agricultural machinery, are expected. Six companies from Brazil will be participating in the fair at the stand organized by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. Professionals from the Brazilian embassy in Algiers will also be at the stand.
This increase is in comparison to the last quarter of 2004. If a comparison is made with the same quarter in 2004, the growth was 2.9%. Exports helped maintain the country GDP on the rise.
Saudi Healthcare started on Sunday (29) and ends on Thursday (2), in Jeddah. According to Maurício Manfré, an executive at the Association of the Manufacturers of Medical and Dental Products (Abimo), Brazilian products have competitive technology and prices that may win Arab clients in the public and private sectors. The association represents 418 companies from Brazil.
In the last two years there has been a record growth of 37% in the number of procedures, which grew from 7,981 in 2002 to 10,920 in 2004. Cornea transplants are the most common. This year a total of 2,500 of these procedures have already taken place.
Geralcoop, established by former employees of the Companhia Geral da Indústria, started exporting wood cookers to Paraguay and Argentina at the end of last year. The cooperative is now after investors or loans to start producing gas cookers and sell them within and outside Brazil. Geralcoop is based in the city of Guaíba, in the southernmost Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, and has 170 associates.
