The end of North American subsidies, determined last week by the World Trade Organization, should increase Brazilian cotton exports by 20% starting in 2006. The decision also benefits African countries like Benin and Burkina Faso, which live off cotton production. The United States have up to the beginning of July to eliminate the subsidies to exports.

Submarine Tikuna was manufactured at the Navy Yard in Rio de Janeiro and is the fifth in its class to go into operation in the country. The first one was manufactured in Germany and the other ones in Brazil, through an agreement for technology transfer. SCA, from the city of Bento Gonçalves, in Rio Grande do Sul, inaugurated a space in Dubai in the month of January and already has various requests for price estimates. At the site, the company has a Brazilian architect, who is responsible for training the labour and developing projects for the region.
