Mercur S. A., which completed 80 years of operation on the market last year, wants to increase exports to the Arab market with the sale of products in its school equipment line, such as erasers. The company currently sells to the region rubber sheets and flooring to be used in civil construction.

Brazilian company Consult & Television is responsible for the installation in Brazil of the transmission system of 10 television channels from Lebanon, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Libya and Yemen. The service has already been installed for around 3,000 users, according to the company director, Hugo Alabi. The search for Arab television channels has been increasing among Brazilians, said Alabi.
According to specialists, Brazilian companies may use one of the countries in the region as an export base to the others. But they must invest or sign some local partnership so as to have the advantage of zero tariffs, forecasted in the agreement that started on January 01, as the product must have a specific percentage of locally made components.

Company Carci, from the southeastern Brazilian state of São Paulo, is already selling to Egypt, Morocco, Palestine, Jordan and Tunisia and will be shipping its first products to Saudi Arabia in January. The company, which exports to around 20 countries, supplies electrotherapy and mechanotherapy equipment to the Arabs. Carci wants to find more representatives in the region for 2005 and also to start selling to Libya and Iraq.
