The most recent study by the National Food Supply Company (Conab) points at a crop of almost 120 million tonnes in the 2005/2006 harvest. The growth was caused by productivity gains, as the cultivated area reduced.

Ortal, a company from the city of Mossoró, in the northeastern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte, exports 80% of its carnauba wax production. Among the buyers are the United States, Germany, Japan and Egypt. The objective, now, is to expand sales among the Arab countries.
The country is going to receive investment of US$ 199 billion in the sector in the next five years. Shipments generated US$ 648 million in the month and had as their main destinations Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Algeria. In the accumulated result for the year, sales to the countries in the Middle East and North Africa have already reached almost US$ 4 billion.
The products made by brand Jerusa Gomes should once again find space in the retail market in the United Arab Emirates. The company had already sold to the Arab world between 2000 and 2004 and is negotiating new exports to the region.
