Rio de Janeiro – The vehicle, trailer and truck bodies industry had a decline of 20.2% in output in 2015. According to data released this Wednesday (2nd) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the decline in the auto industry was the one with the greater impact in the general indicator among the 26 sectors surveyed by the institute from January to July.
Brazil’s industrial output declined 6.6% up to the seventh month of 2015, the steepest decline since 2009, when there was a 7.1% drop. In the first seven months of the year, the steepest decline (29%) was registered in computing, electronics and optical equipment. Pharmaceuticals and pharmachemicals came in third with a decline of 15.5%.
From the 26 sectors surveyed, three posted positive results in 2015. The best performances came from the extractive industry with 8.4% and from varied products (toothbrush, dolls, bikes, balls, among others) with 2.9%. Wood pulp, paper and paper by-products output went up 0.3% from January to July.
