São Paulo – The expansion of Iraq’s capital Baghdad has been driving the need for increased urban infrastructure, which prompted the government to plan the establishment of the city’s fifth ring road, the Iraqi state news agency INA said on Friday (19).
The announcement was made by the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Public Municipalities through the ministry’s spokesperson, Nabil Al-Saffar. “There is a plan to construct the fifth ring road, which will have a larger diameter than the previous ring roads, in order to accommodate the significant urban expansion in Baghdad,” he said.
The fourth ring road is currently under construction in the Iraqi capital. Al-Saffar said companies are working on opening the routes and removing obstacles along the way, while specialized committees document the existing structures on the route for compensation purposes.
