Brasília – Financial institutions surveyed by the Ministry of Finance estimate that the central government’s primary deficit (National Treasure, Social Security and Central Bank) will end this year at BRL 79.473 billion against the previously forecasted BRL 70.751 billion released in February. The result is far from the target set for this year, which is of a primary surplus, meaning revenues higher than costs, excluded spending with interest rates that reaches BRL 24 billion.
The forecast is part of the fourth edition of the survey Prisma Fiscal (Fiscal Prism), developed by the Secretariat of Economic Policy of the Ministry of Finance and based on data from 30 financial institutions. The survey was released this Thursday (17) in Brasília. For 2017, the forecast for the deficit went from BRL 42.084 billion to BRL 71.329 billion.
