São Paulo – Brazilian beef exports yielded US$ 249.2 million in April, which represented an increase in 31.85% in relation to the same period last year. In all, 192,460 tonnes of the product were shipped, compared to 146,460 tonnes in 2004, an increase in 31.4%, according to information released yesterday (18) by the Brazilian Beef Industry and Exporters Association (Abiec).
From January to April this year foreign sales of Brazilian beef already add up to US$ 862.3 million, which represented an increase in 25% in relation to the first four months last year. The volume shipped had an increase in 27%. During the first semester 693,420 tonnes were exported in the first four-month period.
During these first four months of the year Egypt continues to lead in the in natura Brazilian beef imports. The Arab country imported US$ 74.64 million from January to April, which corresponds to 71,670 tonnes. Among the first 15 markets are also Algeria and Saudi Arabia. Yet in relation to the month of April, Russia, the United Kingdom, Egypt and the Netherlands were the main markets.
