São Paulo – Bertin group, which produces cattle beef and leather, is going to invest around US$ 28 million in expanding and opening new industrial units for the production of semi-finished leather. Of this total, around US$ 17.5 million will be invested by the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), according to information supplied on Monday (24) by a bank spokesperson.
Investment will be made in the southeastern state of São Paulo, and in midwestern Goiás and Mato Grosso do Sul. According to information supplied by the BNDES, with this, Bertin intends to increase semi-finished leather production by almost 57%, rising from the current 4.2 million square metres per year to 6.6 million. According to the bank, around 400 direct jobs will be created.
Still according to the BNDES, the sector of leather products is responsible for 65,000 direct jobs in Brazil, and last year export totalled around US$ 2.5 billion.
