São Paulo – Dubai’s modern architecture inspired the creation of the Mulher Moderna (Modern Woman) line of shoe manufacturing company Calçados Biondini, headquartered in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The company will launch its 2011 spring-summer collection next Monday at Francal, Latin America’s largest shoe and accessory fair.
The collection is divided into three types of women, with features typical of different periods: women of the 1950s, women of the 1980s, and modern women. According to the company’s designer, Paola Fabris, photographs of Dubai’s architecture, with images of the tallest and most modern buildings, were collected in order to create the “Modern Woman” line. “We established a link between modern women and Dubai’s architecture,” said the designer.
This modernity may be seen in the shoes’ adornment, such as the shoes’ fasteners, which are very elaborate. “We have incorporated some of the architectural latticework, for instance, to the shoes,” said Paola. The fasteners are available in wood and acrylic. Another feature of the shoes is straight lines. “This line looks ‘cleaner’, with more neutral colours such as white, black, nude and desert,” she added.
In general, the collection brings bold models and differentiated prints. The 1950s-inspired line Menina Mulher (Woman Child) features shoes with lots of bows, flowers and butterflies. It is a more romantic, feminine and delicate line. The 1980s-inspired line Mulher Audaciosa (Bold Woman), in turn, features more aggressive shoes, strong colours and more differentiated models.
Another new feature of Biondini’s shoes is fish leather, manufactured using Acoupa Weakfish. The species is captured in a conscious, non-predatory way, respecting environmental laws and the species’ reproduction periods. The skin is processed using clean, toxic-free technology. According to the company, fish leather is a differentiated material that ensures an innovative design.
Calçados Biondini, has a manufacturing plant in the city of Três Coroas, was founded in 2003 and employs approximately 100 people. With regard to foreign markets, the company is present in Africa, Europe and Japan.
