São Paulo – Publishing house Tabla is launching in Brazil O pequeno lampião [The Little Lantern] written by Palestine’s Ghassan Kanafani and illustrated for his niece Lamis. The book recounts the challenges of a young princess that must bring the sun into her palace to become a queen. It is a story of hope with a surprise ending.
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the death of the Palestinian author, Tabla will host a livestream on Wednesday (20) at 6 pm (BRT) on its YouTube channel featuring a conversation between two scholars and admirers of Kanafani’s work, Ahmed El Zoghbi and Mariane Gennari.
Ghassan Kanafani was a Palestinian author and activist, cofounder of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and one of the major icons of the Arab literature and journalism of our time. Although his work is an expression of the Palestinian people and cause, his literary skills give it a universal appeal. Kanafani (1936-1972) published eighteen books including novels, essays, short stories, plays, and many articles for various newspapers.
Ahmed El Zoghbi holds a master’s degree in Comparative History from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), with research on the political biography and work of Palestinian author Ghassan Kanafani. He is a PhD student in the Program of History of Philosophy at the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS), whose topic is the philosophical thinking of Edward Said.
Mariane Gennari holds a degree in History from the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) and a master’s degree in History from the University of São Paulo (USP) on the novel Men in the Sun by Ghassan Kanafani.
Publishing house Tabla plans on publishing a book with Kanafani’s four novels later this year.
