São Paulo – The retired judge Romeu Abílio will release next Saturday (30th) in São Paulo his “Lembranças Minurcas” (Minurca Memories) a book recounting the history of Arab immigration to the city of Guaxupé, Minas Gerais. The book was officially launched in late 2015, but this time Abílio will present the work in São Paulo, as well as delivering a lecture about it.
In the book, the author tells stories from his childhood and traces back the journey his family members took from cities in Lebanon and Syria to Guaxupé, which saw a heavy influx of Arab immigrants in the early 20th century. The daily routine of the Arab community in the city is also portrayed.
